History
Science & Arts Academy was founded in 1992 with the vision to provide intellectually and creatively talented students a stimulating and supportive environment designed for their unique abilities. Since then, SAA has never wavered from that vision. The SAA experience is structured around three primary goals:
- Gifted Academics: SAA takes the child where he or she is, and provides academic challenges appropriate to the student's ability, aptitude and intellect. Meaningful and valuable depth, breadth, enrichment and acceleration are provided in the core subject areas.
- Gifted Social Peer Groups: SAA provides a welcoming and nurturing environment where gifted kids can be kids, and where children learn to embrace their giftedness. Students are part of a community, enjoying the company of children of like age, interests and ability.
- Gifted Personal Growth: In addition to the benefits provided by social peer groups, SAA provides the tools to help the child grow and develop into a confident, able and effective young person. The goal is to prepare the child for the academic, social and emotional challenges of high school upon 8th grade graduation.
SAA is fully accredited by the Independent Schools Association of the Central States (ISACS). We enjoy affiliations with the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS), Lake Michigan Association of Independent Schools (LMAIS), National Association for Gifted Children (NAGC), and Illinois Association for Gifted Children (IAGC).
