Congratulations to the following students for advancing to History Fair State Competition. Out of the eight projects submitted to regionals, six of them won the privilege of heading to Springfield, IL on May 5th to compete for Nationals this June. Students are incredibly excited, and we look forward to a strong SAA showing.
Way to go, SAA!
Our Science Olympiad team competed in their final competition at University of Illinois-Urbana, this past weekend earning 5 gold 1st place medals, 1 silver 2nd place, 5 bronze 3rd place, 4 4th place, and top 10 positions in all but 3 events. It was a close competition and our students did their best in the 28 events in which they participated. Coaches and parents are thrilled with the results! Darrin, Erika, and I are so very proud of the efforts of our team and their dedication to Science!
Please help us congratulate our team today!
SAA's Shakespeare Festival was a day filled with entertainment, education, and adventure. The day began with an Opening Ceremony that included Queen Elizabeth and her ladies in waiting, William Shakespeare, Christopher Marlowe, and the very humorous Court Jesters. Students listened to a performance by the SAA Madrigal Singers and Mr. Dane Thomas, accompanied by Martin, an 8th grade student. Students also watched a fencing demonstration and learned about Falconry from a professional falconer. Following the ceremony, students wandered through Westminster Market Place and met experts in various fields (5th grade Social Studies students), including an archer, an apothecary, and many, many more. The 6th grade LA students' feature film, based on Julius Cesaer, played continuously in the market place where students wrote insults, created sonnets, visited scientists, saw an oracle, played court games, ate baked goods, and were formally knighted (7th and 8th grade LA students). Walmer Castle (library) was filled with story telling and crafts, and the Globe Theatre (Black Box) featured Shakespearean scenes and monologues (Drama students), more madrigal singing (SAA Chorus), and several musical performances (5th-8th grade music students). A school-wide parade, led by Queen Elizabeth, Shakespeare, and Marlowe traveled around the school. In the afternoon, 7th and 8th grade LA students assumed the roles of historical figures from the Elizabethan Era and performed their original skits in both the Enchanted Forest from A Midsummer Night's Dream (created by 7th grade LA/Latin students) and the Queen's Antechamber (created by 7th grade LA students). From Junior Kindergarten to 8th grade, the SAA community came together and collaborated on and enjoyed a wonderful, fun-filled day! Special thanks to all families who baked and donated goods! Huzzah!

Congratulations to the following students for advancing to History Fair Regionals at Lane Tech High School, taking place this Saturday, April 9th. Students will showcase their projects and enjoy the experience of fellow historians and students from all over the Chicagoland area. If any of these students progress to state, how wonderful! If not, we still have lots to be proud of as the overall experience was gratifying enough.
