Volunteering at SAA

Volunteering

Volunteers are essential to our school community. Both veteran and new parents are strongly encouraged to volunteer – it is a great way to be involved. There are a variety of ways you make an impact, and many do not require a significant time commitment. Any amount of time spent on these activities is greatly appreciated. Parents with babies or small children can inquire about child care opportunities during your volunteer time. Here is a brief description of some of our volunteer activities.

Room Parents are responsible for calling new parents in their child’s homeroom to welcome them/answer questions and for assisting teachers with classroom celebrations and other requests. They will be asked to occasionally recruit parents from their class to help with lunchroom serving for their child’s class and for other FSA-sponsored school events. Room parents are responsible for contacting other parents within the class (using a phone tree) if there is an emergency school closing. We need at least two room parents per class.

Book Fair Volunteers can help with setup or act as cashiers at the Scholastic Book Fairs, held in October and April. We need approximately 20 volunteers to each work a three hour shift for each event.

Open House Volunteers help direct prospective parents and students to the classrooms and answer basic questions about the school.

Family Fun Fair and Potluck Volunteers help with setup and clean up of seating and tables. Each family brings an entrée, side dish or dessert to share, and the FSA arranges for entertainment for the event. The potluck dinner will be held in mid-May.

Benefit and Auction Volunteers assist the Development Committee with preparation and execution of one of our main fundraising events, the annual Spring Gala. The event is a fun, adults-only evening featuring delicious food, musical entertainment and a silent auction.

Baking Volunteers are needed from time to time (e.g. cookies, cupcakes, etc.).

We will also need help with special events such as Picture Day, the Teacher Appreciation Meal, and Graduation. If you have writing, graphics or other communications talents to help with publicity for the school and its events, please note them on the volunteer form.
