Science & Arts Academy (SAA) is an independent, non-denominational, co-educational, not-for-profit day school for students from junior kindergarten through eighth grade located in the Chicago suburb of Des Plaines, IL.

Substitute Teachers
Science & Arts Academy is seeking qualified substitute teachers with an interest in learning more about gifted education or experience in a gifted program to be available during the school year as needed.
Duties include:
- Accomplishing curriculum objectives and goals outlined in the lesson plans and creating a cohesive and consistent learning experience for students

Managing the classroom environment and informing the students’ permanent teacher of their success

Manage the classroom effectively to encourage student participation, minimize distractions, and maintain a positive learning environment

Substitutes may supervise students in and out of the classroom, including in the halls, on the playground, and in the cafeteria
Requirements:

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree, preferably in education or a related field

An interest in working with gifted students or experience in a gifted program

Prior substitute teaching experience is a plus

Teaching credentials are a major plus

A completed background check
