Admissions Process

Admissions calls, school tours, and events are offered throughout the year to help families learn more about the SAA experience and gifted education. 

Administration​ of the Wechsler Preschool and Primary Scale of Intelligence - Fourth Edition  (WPPSI-IV) or the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children - Fifth Edition (WISC-V) is required for first through eighth grade applicants. IQ testing is not required for entry into the Junior Kindergarten or Kindergarten programs.

Children with a full scale IQ score of 125 or above are considered for admission. A complete evaluation report is required, which includes a full scale IQ score, sub-test scores, and evaluator commentary. Testing must be completed by a licensed psychologist. See a list of psychologists that often provide services to families seeking enrollment in Science & Arts Academy.  Evaluations from any licensed psychologist will be accepted, even if they are not included on this list. IQ testing is only one component of the application process, as all aspects of the applicant’s qualifications are taken into consideration when making admissions decisions.

Submit an online application, along with a $75 non-refundable application fee.  For priority consideration, all components of the application process (including steps 2-7) must be completed by February 24.  Applications will continue to be accepted beyond this date as space remains available.  

The following materials should be uploaded to the online application:

• Birth Certificate

• IQ Evaluation Report (1st - 8th)
• Latest School Report Card / Progress Update
• Teacher Recommendation Form
• Principal Recommendation Form (1st - 8th)
• Writing Sample (3rd - 8th)
• Standardized Test Scores (as available, 1st - 8th)
• Parent Inventory of Child Traits (Jr. K and K)

Families are urged not to let the cost of tuition stand in the way of considering an SAA education. SAA’s need-based scholarship program assists deserving students who could not otherwise afford to attend. Families wishing to apply for financial assistance should submit a need-based scholarship application through Clarity, along with a $60 application fee. This is separate from the application for admission, although it should be completed concurrently with the admissions process. Applying for a need-based scholarship does not influence the admission decision.

Applicants will have an opportunity to spend a day in the life of an SAA student. During the shadow day, applicants will attend classes, connect with peers, and learn more about SAA.  

Parents/guardians will meet with a member of the admissions team to share more information and insights into their child’s application.  

The admissions team thoroughly reviews all applications and gives careful consideration to every applicant.  We do not discriminate on the basis of race, sex, color, ethnicity, sexual identity, age, religion or any other characteristic protected under applicable federal, state or local law in the administration of educational policies, scholarships, or any other school program.  

​The first round of admissions decisions for 2025-2026 applicants will be sent on February 28, and continue as space remains available. If a need-based scholarship application was submitted, notification of award decision will be included in the contract. A signed contract, deposit, and new family fee are due within ten days in order to secure enrollment.
