Middle School Drama
Advisor

Mr. Bayer has been working in education for the past 16 years and is currently SAA’s middle school Drama teacher, and an Advisor.

Mr. Bayer received both his bachelors in theatre (acting sequence), and his masters in theatre history from Illinois State University.

Mr. Bayer is active in presenting and sharing how drama can support social emotional skills, as well as drama curriculum, with the Illinois Association for Gifted Children and the Independent School Association of the Central States. He is a member of the Illinois Theatre Association and the Dramatists Guild of America. Additionally, he has professional performance experience in plays and musicals in and around Chicago.

In addition to working in the classroom and directing our fall production and assisting with the spring musical, Mr. Bayer is the instructor to the beloved birding elective course, and coaches the SAA Science Olympiad Ornithology  team. He serves as the leader of the Illinois Young Birders group, and participates in numerous volunteer opportunities related to birding and environmental efforts, such as bird monitoring for Cook County and the Bird Conservation Network, and joining local bird counts (CBC and SBC) as often as possible.

Mr. Bayer also has personal interests in photography, writing, sculpting, boot/shoe making, strategic games (chess), painting, and leather work.
