July 17 - July 28, 2022 Enrichment classes are open to rising 1st-8th grade children and eligibility is based upon the grade a child is entering in Fall 2023. During the registration process families select one class per hour to create their child's enrichment class schedule for Session 1 (June 19 - June 30) and Session 2 (July 3 - July 14).

Enrichment Classes Descriptions
Below is the full list of classes offered during Summer Adventures of Learning sessions 1, 2 and 3. Please note that not every class is offered every session. Please refer to the tables above for classes offered specifically in Session 3
Archery
It's not summer camp without archery! Imagine aiming the arrow at the target like Princess Merida or Robin Hood. Summer camp is all about developing new skills and learning archery provides opportunities to practice discipline, concentration and perseverance. It is a great feeling when campers (in some cases finally) can hit the bullseye because it was a testament to their hard work and dedication! Campers will learn the basic terminology, technique, and safety for archery. Each day includes practice rounds and challenge games like Target Tic Tac Toe and War of the Worlds. Due to the importance of maintaining a safe environment, campers must be prepared to follow all safety instructions. This class takes place outside (tent available for shade) but moves inside during inclement weather. Instructor: Joan Pinz
Art Gallery Design
Let's curate our own art gallery in this hands-on mixed media workshop! Campers will learn about design rules and aesthetics, how to plan a large-scale project with a time constraint, and explore a variety of tools and methods for constructing their works of art. They will also learn how to discuss art with others, including giving constructive criticism and suggestions. At the end of the session, campers will have a beautiful art gallery that other campers can tour, and a beautiful mixed-media art piece to take home. Instructor: Hannah Guter
Ballet & Contemporary Dance Expression
Campers will learn the basics of ballet and contemporary dance. They will explore different elements of choreography, and how to create a dance piece to be performed at the end of the session. Working with each other and the instructor, campers will select music, design a costume, and rehears a piece until it is performance ready. Instructor: Allie Burdick
Broadway Babies
In this Broadway-inspired class, campers will learn the art of combining acting and dancing. Campers will learn choreography to songs from award-winning Broadway musicals, and then perform a piece live at the end of the session. Instructor: Allie Burdick
Bucket Band
Ever listen to a song and find yourself tapping your pencil or playing some air drums? Do you like the sound of the bass beat in your favorite tune? You might be the perfect Bucket Band Drummer! Come join the fun making music with buckets, wooden sticks, chairs, and other found sounds this summer. We will work on drumming basics, creating music rhythms as a team, and have a great time making some fabulous noise. Instructor: Beverly Preuss
Build a Play
Calling all actors! Learn how to use your voice, body, and imagination to bring characters to life onstage. In Build a Play, campers will work together to create a brand new play inspired by a familiar story or theme that they will share in a final performance. Instructor: Northlight Theatre
Chemistry in Action
Campers will have a blast conducting hands-on experiments using common household items like baking soda, vinegar, food coloring, shaving cream, and cornstarch. We will create an exploding volcano, Oobleck, DIY lava lamps, different variations of slime, and more. Each day begins with a science read aloud, followed by a hands-on experiment and a journal reflection. Campers have the opportunity to mix, create, observe and analyze chemical reactions in a manner that they may not have the opportunity to do in a traditional, larger classroom setting. Chess
Enter the world of chess this summer! Open to campers of all playing levels and experience, this classic game of strategy is both fun and teaches important educational and life skills including concentration, logic, critical thinking, and sportsmanship. Beginner players will be introduced to the rules, moves, etiquette, and basic strategies of the game, while players with more experience will have opportunities to enhance their skills by mastering opening game theory, middle game tactics and end game combinations. Each day campers will receive instruction followed by friendly matches amongst campers of similar experience levels. Instructor: Chess-Ed
Chinese Experience
Welcome to our fun Chinese summer program! Your camper will be introduced to a variety of Chinese customs, history, cultural traditions (Holiday/Festive) and the Chinese language. The students will be taught Chinese characters through reading stories, playing games, calligraphy (Chinese brush) and creating art projects. Campers will also have the opportunity to sing Chinese songs and read traditional Chinese poems. This approach is to help teach your camper the differences between Chinese and Western culture and customs. Most of the learning materials will be designed by the course instructor to best suit your student based on their age and learning level. Instructor: Ahhsia Bigelow
Circuit Playground Introduction to Electronics
This is a project based introduction to the world of physical computing. Each camper will be given a circuit playground microcontroller and the basic skills necessary to code it to sense its surroundings. They will design how they want to use the temperature, motion, sound, or touch information to create games, wearable electronics, or whatever they can come up with. Campers will get to take their projects home at the end of camp in order to continue expanding on their knowledge of electronics and coding. Computer ArchiTechs
Have you ever wondered how a computer really works? In this class, campers will learn about all of the parts that make up a computer, working hands-on with the components to understand what each part does and why it's necessary for a computer to function. Then, campers will get the opportunity to build a functioning computer with a partner or small group with the provided materials. Instructor: Danielius Rekasius
'Cool'inary Cooking Club
Your camper can have a blast every week discovering how easy and fun it is to cook (and gobble-up!) tasty, healthy globally-inspired recipes! Our interactive cooking classes incorporate S.T.E.A.M., culture, language, geography, history and more. Sticky Fingers Cooking offers your chef the chance to explore exciting tastes (all seasonal and as local as possible!), master culinary skills (that they can put to use in family kitchens!), and nourish their bodies and minds. Our talented and experienced Chef Instructors bring all of the ingredients, district approved equipment and supplies to lead an engaging, fun, and interactive cooking class with your young chefs in training. CPR and First Aid Certification
Do you care about the safety of people around you? Do you seek to get Red Cross certified to open doors to job opportunities such as a camp counselor or babysitter? Learn Red Cross Procedures to prevent and care for others in situations such as: muscle and joint strains, broken bones, life threatening bleeding, unconsciousness, anaphylaxis, cardiac arrest, and more. Taught by a veteran Health Education Teacher who has certified hundreds of children, this class will develop self-confidence in one’s ability to help others. Campers who meet all expectations (attend all classes and pass the written and skills test) will receive a certification at the end. Instructor: Chris Trella
Curtain Call
Express yourself through creative movement and improvisation in this musical theatre-based class! Campers will learn choreography to songs from musicals such as Annie, Matilda, and Aladdin, and will get to perform a piece for a live audience at the end of the session! Instructor: Allie Burdick
Español Espectacular
¿Habla español? Come learn the basics of the Spanish language and explore the extremely diverse world of Spanish-speaking culture! Campers will enjoy learning Spanish through songs, games, and other activities. Discover unique cuisine, exciting art, and a selection of Spanish-speaking countries around the world. No prior Spanish skills are needed to enjoy this espectacular class! Instructor: Maria Trella
Fabulous Fabrics
Come see why crafting with fabrics is "sew" much fun! This class will develop basic hand-stitching techniques and other mixed-media applications for fabric-based art. Students will hone their fine-motor skills and express their creativity as they design and craft their own mini stuffed animal or doll, a wearable fashion item, and more in this mixed-media workshop. Felting & Beading
Get your creativity on! In this specialty hands-on crafting workshop, students will explore both the fuzzy world of felt and the beauty of beading! Camp will begin with an introduction to needle felting basics, including simple tools and methods to shape wool fibers into freestanding, solid sculptures. Projects may include felted soap, wet felted landscapes, 3-D animals, and wearable art. Beading projects will focus on pattern-making and design, wearable art, and experimenting with different materials to create individualized projects. Both craft techniques work on patience and help develop fine motor skills. Instructor: Hannah Guter
Gelli Printing & Collage Techniques
Gelli printing is a form of printmaking that has endless possibilities and is fun for artists of all ages! Campers will print their own designs using a Gelli printing plate made from synthetic (NOT from animal bones) gelatin. Campers will experiment with various color combinations, stencils, and layering techniques. During week two, campers will be able to cut some of their prints and experiment with various collage/assemblage techniques. At the end of the session, campers will leave with two (one Gelli print, one collage using Gelli prints) pieces of mat framed art, as well as all the loose prints they completed throughout the session. Gliders and Flight Science
Throughout history in all cultures there has always been a fascination with flight. Campers will learn the basic principles of flight and build a variety of gliders using common materials, such as paper, straws, and foam sheets. Previous groups have also been successful building laminated paper airplanes. This summer, groups will be introduced to rubber band powered gliders, and have opportunities to test their glider’s flight time, distance, and speed with their peers. They will also learn how to measure, improve and optimize the performance of their gliders. Instructor: Angelo Gero
Hip-hop & Jazz Dance Expression
Campers will learn elements of hip-hop, jazz and some break-dancing in this high-energy course. Campers will help choreograph and perform their own Hip-hop and Jazz-based piece at the end of the session, and even design their own costumes. Instructor: Allie Burdick
Hippity Hop Dance
In this fun, upbeat class, campers will learn the art of teamwork and basic hip-hop skills. Campers will also have the opportunity to create a dance with their instructor, design their own costumes, and perform their piece at the end of the session! Instructor: Allie Burdick
Improv Comedy Character Creation
Join Knuckleball Comedy for a fun-filled summer of character creation and improv! At our Improv Comedy Character Creation camp, kids will have the opportunity to bring their wildest and wackiest characters to life through drawing and improvisation. Our experienced instructors will guide them through the process of creating and developing their own unique characters, and then using those characters in improv scenes and games. Whether your child is a seasoned improviser or a beginner, this camp is sure to bring out their inner comedian. Intro to Roblox Scripting
This course is an introduction to the Lua language used in Roblox. Campers will learn the basics of how to start designing interactive games that can be played by their friends. Campers will learn to create scripts within their games that are triggered by events in order to make them dynamic and interactive. Lua is a text based language that can help aspiring developers transition from block coding to a syntax closer to python, java, or C++. No experience coding necessary, although familiarity with block coding will help campers take on more challenging projects. Instructor: Jan Wieczorek

In this high energy dance course utilizing elements of Hip Hop and Jazz, campers will learn and perform dance pieces and create their own costumes. They will learn how to work with an ensemble on stage and explore new and creative ways to stay active. Instructor: Allie Burdick

Come learn about rhythm and working as an ensemble through the basics of ballet and contemporary dance. Plus, campers will create their own costumes to wear during their special performance at the end of the session. Instructor: Allie Burdick
LEGO Engineering
LEGOs are much more than toys! This popular introductory class covers basic engineering principles using LEGOs. Campers work individually or in partners to plan, build, and test a variety of structures. Each session is based around a theme, and campers model their designs and construction from photos of real examples. Examples of previous LEGO challenges include skyscrapers, castles, bridges, off world colonies, vehicles, cities, and more. Instructor: Angelo Gero
LEGO Robotics
We have upgraded to the brand new LEGO Mindstorms Robot Inventor kit! Campers program and test their robots in order to complete a variety of tasks. Each camper tracks their progress in a personal workbook. These challenges involve programming the motion of the robot and using one or more sensors to guide their robot, and campers use conditional decision making, a fundamental programming concept (e.g. programming a robot to move through a maze of foam blocks). As the session progresses, campers take on more and more complex challenges. Instructor: Angelo Gero
Mad Science: The Future of STEM
Jr. Scientists will spend two weeks exploring different STEM careers in a fun and engaging setting filled with hands-on experiments, problem solving, creative thinking, and cool take-home items! Topics will include chemistry, aerospace, entomology, and more! STEM related careers are projected to grow faster than all other occupations in the next decade! Mad Science STEM Explorers: Our Solar System
Join us for a two week voyage of discovery into the atmosphere and beyond as we explore planets, moons, and our solar system. Things will heat up as we examine the sun and other stars and discover the difficulties of space travel! Kids will love to participate in a real “NASA” style rocket launch, and receive many cool NASA take homes! STEM related careers are projected to grow faster than all other occupations in the next decade! Explore the incredibly diverse world of mixed-media art! Campers will enjoy trying out a variety of techniques and materials to design and create 3-D artistic masterpieces. Interested in composing the next pop hit? Want to create the perfect mash-up? Campers will get equipped with a working knowledge of music industry tools for composition and notation, sound recording/engineering, and creating original music. Students will become familiar with multiple Digital Audio Workstations such as Google Chrome MusicLab, Incredibox, SoundTrap, and Bandlab. Instructor: Emily Dahowski
Musical Theatre and Dance
Step outside of your comfort zone in this upbeat musical theatre-based dance course. Learn the fundamental principles of musical theatre dance derived from Fosse technique and classical Jazz, while learning and performing pieces from award winning musicals like Chicago, Moulin Rouge, Mamma Mia! and Hairspray. Playwrights Studio
Find the writer in you. How do you take an idea and turn it into a play or a movie? Campers will explore the many aspects of playwriting and screenwriting through improv and theatre games as they develop original characters, dialogue and stories. Robotic Creations
Have you ever wondered about the robots that we see and use every day? Join us this summer to learn about the basics of electricity and robotics - no experience or programming needed! We'll be building our own electronic creations, including electromagnetic motors, circuit art, motorized cars, simple robots, and more! This class is perfect for young engineers and DIY enthusiasts! Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
Rock and Roll History will explore the extensive background of Rock and Roll music and artists. See how Rock and Roll changed the course of history. This class will consist of listening, discussing, reflecting, reading, and interacting with Rock and Roll music. Then, we'll create our own Rock and Roll Hall of Fame exhibits to show off one famous artist by recreating some of their most iconic albums and making a playlist of what campers believe to be that band's greatest hits! ScratchJr.
This is an introduction to the amazing world of coding with ScratchJr (https:// www.scratchjr.org/)! Campers will learn to organize programming blocks to make their characters move, jump, dance and sing. Using these skills, campers can create their own interactive stories and games to share with friends and family at home. During the first week, campers take on simple coding challenges each day, such as making a car move across the town, making animals race, and making characters talk to each other. After learning to code simple programs, campers brainstorm, collaborate and create programming for original works during the second week. By the end of the session, campers have the building blocks to learn Scratch programming in the future. Instructor: Christine Cheung
Simple Crocheting and Embroidery
Enroll your camper in this exciting enrichment class to learn the art of crocheting and embroidery. While doing hand-embroidery, your camper will create a beautiful dreamcatcher. Using chain crochet stitching your camper will add to their dreamcatcher by adding the laces. In addition, they will create appliques and do hand stitching on their very own donut pillows. Learning a new craft or technique can build confidence in your camper. We expect that they will have a wonderful time and be proud of their ability to create something beautiful! Soccer Stars United
Soccer Stars United uses licensed and experienced coaches who work closely with players through a curriculum that gradually introduces new technical skills, tactical elements, and team concepts as players reach program milestones. Soccer players will run drills utilizing newly introduced skills and strategy, play scrimmage games for practice, and experience camaraderie while being part of a team. Instructor: Super Soccer Stars
Solve with Math
Young mathematicians will explore math challenges and solve math puzzles. Campers will learn about ancient numbering systems from around the world, create their original numbering systems, work with tangram puzzles, build with Magna Tiles, and stretch their mathematical skills with multi-step story problems. Each class begins with a math storybook, followed by small group work on multi-step math challenges. Favorite authors of math storybooks include Greg Tang and Brian Cleary. Campers benefit from collaborating with their peers to practice and apply critical thinking and analytical thinking skills. Instructor: Christine Cheung
Summer Soccer Stars
Super Soccer stars is the classic youth soccer program that teaches the fundamentals of the sport in a fun, non-competitive, educational environment. Our unique curriculum uses positive reinforcement and a low child-to-coach ratio to make sure each child feels supported and confident in his or her own abilities, allowing kids to improve at their own rate. Participants may wear cleats or athletic sneakers when outside, but must always have a pair of athletic sneakers available to use in case of inclement weather, as no cleats are allowed in the gym. Theatre Makers
Explore every part of creating theatre in just two weeks! From acting in plays and musicals to the many aspects of theatre design; costumes, set, and sound design, campers will get hands-on experience in the artistic and performance side of theatre. Tutus and Bowties
Come learn about rhythm and working as an ensemble through the basics of ballet and contemporary dance. Campers will also get to make their own tutu or bowtie to wear in a special performance at the end of the session! Instructor: Allie Burdick
Ukulele Jam
Join us for some fun and fabulous music! This class will introduce kids to playing ukulele in a group setting. Through musical games, movement, and singing, your camper will develop our musicianship skills together. They will work on chords and strumming, and learn a few songs that are great for beginners. Young Creative Writers
In this class, campers will have a chance to write in a variety of genres everyday. Campers work in a creative writing prompts journal and play engaging vocabulary games including Mad Libs, Hangman, Charades, and More. We will also be reading award-winning children's books, writing a dialogue journal, writing original fairy tales, poetry, and working with wordless picture books. Your camper can have a blast every week discovering how easy and fun it is to cook (and gobble-up!) tasty, healthy globally-inspired recipes! Our interactive cooking classes incorporate S.T.E.A.M., culture, language, geography, history and more. Sticky Fingers Cooking offers your chef the chance to explore exciting tastes (all seasonal and as local as possible!), master culinary skills (that they can put to use in family kitchens!), and nourish their bodies and minds. Our talented and experienced Chef Instructors bring all of the ingredients, district approved equipment and supplies to lead an engaging, fun, and interactive cooking class with your young chefs in training. Do you care about the safety of people around you? Do you seek to get Red Cross certified to open doors to job opportunities such as a camp counselor or babysitter? Learn Red Cross Procedures to prevent and care for others in situations such as: muscle and joint strains, broken bones, life threatening bleeding, unconsciousness, anaphylaxis, cardiac arrest, and more. Taught by a veteran Health Education Teacher who has certified hundreds of children, this class will develop self-confidence in one’s ability to help others. Fabulous Fabrics
Come see why crafting with fabrics is "sew" much fun! This class will develop basic hand-stitching techniques and other mixed-media applications for fabric-based art. Students will hone their fine-motor skills and express their creativity as they design and craft their own mini stuffed animal or doll, a wearable fashion item, and more in this mixed-media workshop. Felting & Beading
Get your creativity on! In this specialty hands-on crafting workshop, students will explore both the fuzzy world of felt and the beauty of beading! Camp will begin with an introduction to needle felting basics, including simple tools and methods to shape wool fibers into freestanding, solid sculptures. Projects may include felted soap, wet felted landscapes, 3-D animals, and wearable art. Beading projects will focus on pattern-making and design, wearable art, and experimenting with different materials to create individualized projects. Gelli printing is a form of printmaking that has endless possibilities and is fun for artists of all ages! Campers will print their own designs using a Gelli printing plate made from synthetic (NOT from animal bones) gelatin. Campers will experiment with various color combinations, stencils, and layering techniques. During week two, campers will be able to cut some of their prints and experiment with various collage/assemblage techniques. At the end of the session, campers will leave with two (one Gelli print, one collage using Gelli prints) pieces of mat framed art, as well as all the loose prints they completed throughout the session. Gliders and Flight Science
Throughout history in all cultures there has always been a fascination with flight. Campers will learn the basic principles of flight and build a variety of gliders using common materials, such as paper, straws, and foam sheets. Previous groups have also been successful building laminated paper airplanes. This summer, groups will be introduced to rubber band powered gliders, and have opportunities to test their glider’s flight time, distance, and speed with their peers. They will also learn how to measure, improve and optimize the performance of their gliders. Instructor: Angelo Gero
Hip-hop & Jazz Dance Expression
Campers will learn elements of hip-hop, jazz and some break-dancing in this high-energy course. Campers will help choreograph and perform their own Hip-hop and Jazz-based piece at the end of the session, and even design their own costumes. Instructor: Allie Burdick

Intro to Roblox Scripting
This course is an introduction to the Lua language used in Roblox. Campers will learn the basics of how to start designing interactive games that can be played by their friends. Campers will learn to create scripts within their games that are triggered by events in order to make them dynamic and interactive. Lua is a text based language that can help aspiring developers transition from block coding to a syntax closer to python, java, or C++. No experience coding necessary, although familiarity with block coding will help campers take on more challenging projects. Instructor: Jan Wieczorek

LEGO Engineering
LEGOs are much more than toys! This popular introductory class covers basic engineering principles using LEGOs. Campers work individually or in partners to plan, build, and test a variety of structures. Each session is based around a theme, and campers model their designs and construction from photos of real examples. LEGO Robotics
We have upgraded to the brand new LEGO Mindstorms Robot Inventor kit! Campers program and test their robots in order to complete a variety of tasks. Each camper tracks their progress in a personal workbook. These challenges involve programming the motion of the robot and using one or more sensors to guide their robot, and campers use conditional decision making, a fundamental programming concept (e.g. programming a robot to move through a maze of foam blocks). Join us for a two week voyage of discovery into the atmosphere and beyond as we explore planets, moons, and our solar system. Things will heat up as we examine the sun and other stars and discover the difficulties of space travel! Find the writer in you. How do you take an idea and turn it into a play or a movie? Campers will explore the many aspects of playwriting and screenwriting through improv and theatre games as they develop original characters, dialogue and stories. Have you ever wondered about the robots that we see and use every day? Join us this summer to learn about the basics of electricity and robotics - no experience or programming needed! Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
Rock and Roll History will explore the extensive background of Rock and Roll music and artists. See how Rock and Roll changed the course of history. This class will consist of listening, discussing, reflecting, reading, and interacting with Rock and Roll music. Then, we'll create our own Rock and Roll Hall of Fame exhibits to show off one famous artist by recreating some of their most iconic albums and making a playlist of what campers believe to be that band's greatest hits! ScratchJr.
This is an introduction to the amazing world of coding with ScratchJr (https:// www.scratchjr.org/)! Campers will learn to organize programming blocks to make their characters move, jump, dance and sing. Using these skills, campers can create their own interactive stories and games to share with friends and family at home. During the first week, campers take on simple coding challenges each day, such as making a car move across the town, making animals race, and making characters talk to each other. After learning to code simple programs, campers brainstorm, collaborate and create programming for original works during the second week. Simple Crocheting and Embroidery
Enroll your camper in this exciting enrichment class to learn the art of crocheting and embroidery. While doing hand-embroidery, your camper will create a beautiful dreamcatcher. Using chain crochet stitching your camper will add to their dreamcatcher by adding the laces. In addition, they will create appliques and do hand stitching on their very own donut pillows. Learning a new craft or technique can build confidence in your camper. We expect that they will have a wonderful time and be proud of their ability to create something beautiful! Soccer Stars United
Soccer Stars United uses licensed and experienced coaches who work closely with players through a curriculum that gradually introduces new technical skills, tactical elements, and team concepts as players reach program milestones. Soccer players will run drills utilizing newly introduced skills and strategy, play scrimmage games for practice, and experience camaraderie while being part of a team. Instructor: Super Soccer Stars
Solve with Math
Young mathematicians will explore math challenges and solve math puzzles. Campers will learn about ancient numbering systems from around the world, create their original numbering systems, work with tangram puzzles, build with Magna Tiles, and stretch their mathematical skills with multi-step story problems. Each class begins with a math storybook, followed by small group work on multi-step math challenges. Favorite authors of math storybooks include Greg Tang and Brian Cleary. Campers benefit from collaborating with their peers to practice and apply critical thinking and analytical thinking skills. Instructor: Christine Cheung
Summer Soccer Stars
Super Soccer stars is the classic youth soccer program that teaches the fundamentals of the sport in a fun, non-competitive, educational environment. Our unique curriculum uses positive reinforcement and a low child-to-coach ratio to make sure each child feels supported and confident in his or her own abilities, allowing kids to improve at their own rate. Participants may wear cleats or athletic sneakers when outside, but must always have a pair of athletic sneakers available to use in case of inclement weather, as no cleats are allowed in the gym. Explore every part of creating theatre in just two weeks! From acting in plays and musicals to the many aspects of theatre design; costumes, set, and sound design, campers will get hands-on experience in the artistic and performance side of theatre. Ukulele Jam
Join us for some fun and fabulous music! This class will introduce kids to playing ukulele in a group setting. Through musical games, movement, and singing, your camper will develop our musicianship skills together. They will work on chords and strumming, and learn a few songs that are great for beginners. Young Creative Writers
In this class, campers will have a chance to write in a variety of genres everyday. Campers work in a creative writing prompts journal and play engaging vocabulary games including Mad Libs, Hangman, Charades, and More. We will also be reading award-winning children's books, writing a dialogue journal, writing original fairy tales, poetry, and working with wordless picture books.
