Ms. Julie Gibbons has been part of the SAA community since 2009, and currently teaches kindergarten and early childhood drama.
After graduating from Loyola University of Chicago with a degree in elementary education, she taught full time for four years. Ms. Gibbons then relocated to South Florida and pursued a career in acting for several years, where she won two Carbonell awards for work in South Florida theatre companies.
Ms. Gibbons eventually returned to Chicago and ran an after school drama program before accepting a position at SAA. During that time, she received her masters in gifted education from Northeastern Illinois University.
Ms. Gibbons enjoys contributing to society by making a difference in the lives of children and giving them a strong educational foundation. As a gifted learner herself, she was drawn to gifted education. But with a lack of gifted programming available to her during her formative years, she was not challenged, and did not enjoy learning until high school. “Most of my relatives are gifted, including my nephew and my daughter, both of whom graduated from SAA. It breaks my heart to see our world's greatest resource -- our gifted children -- losing their love of learning, their ambition, and their creativity because school is boring for them. I enjoy ensuring that doesn't happen with my students.”
Ms.Gibbons and her daughter love to travel in the summer, and enjoy performing together in local musicals and plays. She freelances as a professional singer in her spare time. During the school year, Ms. Gibbons is a proud "dance mom" helping her daughter prepare for dance competitions. Ms. Gibbons is also a huge animal lover, and enjoys spending time with her dog and cats.
