Part of the SAA community since 2007, Dr. Michelle Gueguen teaches Social Studies to 5th and 6th grade students, serves as an Advisor, and is Chair of the Social Studies Department.
“I'm so grateful that SAA has been my home. When I first began here, I quickly realized that what spoke to me as a child, also spoke to my students. I loved big questions and creative projects and my favorite teachers got to know me and didn't force me to fit into a box.”
Dr. Gueguen earned a Bachelor of Arts in French and International Business and her Masters in French Language Learning from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She began her career in education when she started teaching French at the university.
In 2007, Dr. Gueguen joined SAA as a French teacher. After her first semester teaching French, Dr. Gueguen began to teach Language Arts, Math, and Social Studies at SAA, as well as leading small groups as part of SAA’s commitment to differentiation in the lower school.
Eventually she earned her Ed.D. in Curriculum and Instruction from Loyola University Chicago and was a 2010 recipient of Loyola University's Teaching with Primary Sources program grant through the Library of Congress.
Today Dr. Gueguen teaches Social Studies where her curriculum includes examination of current events, in addition to many creative projects. Her focus is on consistent, organic, student driven learning opportunities that are meaningful to each class of students.
Outside of school you can find Dr. Gueguen traveling and cooking with her two children, practicing yoga and writing.
