Mr. Guzzarde joined SAA in 2019 as a physical education teacher and coach for our middle school coed basketball team.
Before SAA, Mr Guzzarde served as a physical education, health teacher, and assistant athletic director at Sauganash Elementary School in Chicago. Mr. Guzzarde has significant middle school and high school coaching experience and is currently the Assistant Varsity softball coach and the Assistant Varsity girls volleyball coach at Maine East High School.
A graduate of DePaul University with a degree in physical education, Mike also holds a master’s degree in Health and Wellness Education and his professional educator license. While studying at DePaul University, he was an after-school assistant and summer camp counselor for District 63. Mr. Guzzarde enjoyed working with students and seemed to have a natural ability to create, organize, and lead sports and recreational activities. It was this role that solidified his desire to pursue a degree in physical education. “Knowing that I was making even a small difference in a student's life was a great fit for me. I remain a teacher today because I still thrive off of the feeling that I can make an impact and make a student's day just a little bit better."
When he is not teaching, you may find Mr. Guzzarde coaching a sport, playing a sport, fitness training, traveling, or just watching a good show. He has ten nieces and nephews, so spending time with his family is high priority. He also loves to travel and Seville, Spain has been his favorite place in the world so far.
