Joanna has spent most of her career as an admissions and marketing professional for institutions of higher education.
Pursuing a degree in advertising management, with a minor in art history, Joanna was led to study the masters in Florence and Rome, a study abroad experience to eventually shape her career. After earning her Bachelors in Journalism from Ohio University, she returned to Italy armed with an English language teaching certification (CELTA) for a role at Lorenzo de Medici | The Italian Institute (LdM) as an English as a Second Language (ESL) teacher and as student advisor and program manager for the college study abroad program. While at LdM, she developed a passion for marketing and promoting the school's English language program, thereby growing enrollment and expanding the school’s offerings and reputation in and around Florence.
She later landed in New York City joining Visual Communications Group, an investor relations firm and subsidiary of Grey Advertising. As an Account Executive she worked with clients like Artistdirect, Netflix and Snapple helping to perfect their IPO Roadshows and create compelling annual reports. Eventually the opportunity came to return to LdM in Florence to serve as an instructor of mass communications and public relations, allowing her to once again work closely with international students.
Joanna eventually returned to Chicago to work for a marketing consulting firm. With aspirations to earn her MBA, she accepted a position at Lake Forest Graduate School of Management and once again returned to higher education, this time as an admissions director and student simultaneously. After earning her MBA, she moved on to the University of Chicago Booth School of Business for the next eleven years holding several roles in enrollment management, alumni engagement, global outreach, communications and marketing. She has travelled the globe representing the MBA program and leading the marketing team within admissions.
With a passion for education, growing school visibility and working with students, Joanna wanted an opportunity to work with children in a school with a targeted mission and unique learning philosophy. At SAA Joanna oversees internal and external communications to enhance the visibility of the school. She leads projects and campaigns meant to strengthen the relationships between SAA and prospective families, alumni and friends of the school. Joanna ensures that the school’s communication plan accurately reflects SAA’s commitment to gifted education and manages the promotion of special events that enhance the school’s visibility within the community.
Joanna can often be found at her son's elementary school carrying out her duties as an enthusiastic room mom, planning international adventures for her family, and serving as a passionate advocate for artistic expression and appreciation.
