Ms. Jolicoeur joined SAA in 2017 as a Latin teacher and Advisor to our middle school students. Ms. Jolicoeur is thrilled to be a part of the SAA community and loves that SAA is an upbeat, positive place, where she can work with children who are excited to learn. She appreciates the way SAA values the whole child, and focuses on more than just academic success.
In her Latin classes, she really enjoys teaching the process of reading and translating the language. She finds it. most rewarding when a student has an "aha!" moment or correctly applies a strategy that she has suggested. She loves any time a connection between English and Latin is made in the classroom, and works with other teachers to share Latin connections across the curriculum. “Learning is an ongoing process. The small successes, challenges and breakthroughs along the way are the true benefit of learning. The most important things can't be quantified by a grade.”
Ms. Jolicoeur serves as the coach for the SAA Certamen team, our traveling competitive Latin team, and helps students to participate in events with the Illinois Junior Classical League. She is also a member of the American Classical League.
She received her bachelors in philosophy from Illinois Wesleyan University and her MA in teaching in secondary education with a Latin concentration from National Louis University.
In her time outside the classroom, you can find Ms. Jolicoeur reading, listening to podcasts, running, and spending time with family and friends.
