Ms. Katauskas has been at SAA for the last 13 years, teaching both Math and Science courses. Currently, she is all things Math, serving as a Math teacher, the 3rd and 4th Math Club leader, and the Middle School Math Team Coach.
Catherine May has spent 29 years in education and taught at Independent and Catholic Schools in Chicago and the North Shore before arriving at SAA, bringing extensive experience teaching primarily math and science at the middle school level. “I am passionate about mathematics and helping students both be invited into the world of mathematics and to realize their potential as mathematicians.”
Ms. Katauskas earned a BS in Biology and Chemistry from Mundelein College, an MS in Electro-Physiology from Rush University, and an MAT in K-9 Education from National Louis University. She completed US Montessori Training for grades 6-12, and went on to pursue her MEd in Gifted Education from Northeastern Illinois University after arriving at SAA.
Identified as a gifted learner, she knew early on she wanted a career that helped people. Realizing that everyone has at least one favorite teacher, she began to pursue a career in education. Coming from a family of educators, including university professors, only strengthened her drive. “It became imperative to me to support the needs of gifted children. Everyone deserves a chance to live as their true selves and be accepted and understood for who they are.”
In her free time, Ms. Katauskas enjoys reading, travelling, watching science fiction or investigative TV shows and films, and spending time with her two cats. She is also a popular instructor known for her Casino Math class in our Summer Adventures in Learning summer program.
