Mrs. Kleps believes that each child needs to be challenged to reach their highest potential, and has made it her mission to not leave any student behind. She believes that gifted children can have a great impact on the world if their talents are nurtured. Mrs. Kleps loves to use her creativity to innovate in her teaching, immerse herself in various topics, and continue to grow and develop as an educator along with her students.
Mrs. Kleps became involved in gifted education first as a student in Downers Grove schools, where she participated in a weekly pull-out program called "Extend." She really enjoyed her program peers and the opportunity for enrichment activities and projects such as plays, logic problems, and "The Voyage of the Mimi" simulation.
She earned a BFA in theatre from Drake University, and started substitute teaching in 2001 while working on her masters in teaching from Dominican University, with a Reading Specialist Certification. Serving as a substitute teacher, Mrs. Kleps discovered her true calling. She began full time teaching in 2004 and has worked at multiple schools as both a 3rd grade, 4th grade, and K-6 reading specialist. She holds middle school endorsements in theatre, french, social science, and language arts. She was selected to participate in the Chicago Area Writing Project Summer Institute, and is a member of the Illinois Reading Council.
Mrs. Kleps is married and has four children, ages 3 to 10. She enjoys baking desserts (and is famous for going overboard with decorating children's birthday cakes), gardening, and reading. She also aspires to write regularly, as she has written a few unpublished children's books.
