Ms. Shirley Krzyzyk is the Academic Resource Specialist providing support for faculty, students, and parents. Mrs. Krzyzyk works with students and parents conducting check-ins, and offering one-on-one support.
After teaching roles within the math, social studies, and language arts departments, Ms. Krzyzyk began working with the Student Support Team as a liaison between students, teachers, and their parents to provide support in a variety of areas. Ms. Krzyzyk helps our already bright and curious students fine-tune their skills while developing new techniques. Students work with Ms. Krzyzyk during guided study periods, for individual support, or one-on-on advanced instruction and guidance. “I enjoy working with other teachers, finding a way to fit into their classroom and co-teaching.”
Shirley earned her BA in History from Loyola University Chicago, and an MEd in Special Education, Learning Disabilities/Social-Emotional Disorders from the University of Illinois at Chicago. She also has her Professional Educator License from the State of Illinois with endorsements in Learning Specialist I, Learning Disabilities, Secondary Education, and Social/Emotional Disorders. She is a member of the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, Bureau for Educational Research, National Association for Gifted Children, National Center for Learning Disabilities, and the STAR Autism Association.
Ms. Krzyzyk brings rich experience in education that includes teaching for 34 years with the Archdiocese of Chicago, 20 years in the Gifted Summer Program at Dominican University, and over twenty years at SAA. “I always somehow knew I wanted to be a teacher. Teachers from my elementary education had a great influence on me.” She became connected with SAA through working with SAA’s Headmaster Emeritus Dr. Mary Christensen at Dominican University when she was invited to apply for a role at the school.
Outside of SAA, Ms. Krzyzyk enjoys traveling, and is an avid sports fan.
