For 4th grade homeroom and math teacher Margaret Kukec, education is chapter three of her adult life.
Graduating from Clarke College with a biology degree, and subsequently becoming a certified Medical Technologist, she worked in the pharmaceutical research arena for 10 years, while simultaneously earning her MBA from Dominican University.
During her chapter two decade, Mrs. Kukec embraced the life of a stay-at-home mom. This is where her passion as a lifelong learner melded with working with children. Actively volunteering at her children’s schools, her church, and as a leader and volunteer for Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, fostered her desire to become a teacher.
Eventually she began substitute teaching at SAA and her local school district in Des Plaines, all while attaining her masters of arts in teaching (MAT) from National Louis University, theberby beginning chapter three - life in education! Upon completing her degree, she worked for two years as a Teacher Assistant for Special Needs children in CCSD 64 in Park Ridge, where she had done her student teaching.
Margaret began her teaching career at SAA in 2013 as a 1st and 2nd grade language arts teacher, but the common denominator for all of her years at SAA has been teaching math. She is currently a 3rd and 4th grade math teacher, but has also taught middle school math at SAA. You may find her helping her math students whenever possible or lending a hand to the 3rd and 4th grade math club.
“Teaching at SAA has been a wholly rewarding and joyful experience. Teachers have the privilege of teaching in small classes so the personalization of academics and social/emotional learning is achieved. We have so many opportunities to stretch our thinking, create and explore while enjoying the bountiful experiences of witnessing our children thrive abound. “
Outside of school, her family is her priority. Married with three adult-aged children and a large extended family makes for a busy extracurricular agenda. Other interests include biking, music, volunteering and sports. While a Chicago sports fan, growing up about six miles west of Wrigley Field has made the Cubs her favorite Chicago team. Big Ten sports also rules the household as her husband and three children all attended Big Ten institutions.
What advice does Mrs. Kukec give to her students? Be grateful, be kind, work hard, do your best and have fun!
