With a 34-year career in education, Mrs. Lewis has been part of the SAA faculty for 15 years. Currently Mrs. Lewis teaches 2nd grade,  as well as Language Arts, and Math across grade levels. She has also inspired students as our inaugural Explore and Create instructor.

Mrs. Lewis earned a BA in Elementary Education/Learning Disabilities from Carthage College, and an MA in Curriculum and Instruction from Concordia University with an emphasis in Educational Technology. Not only has Kim taught various subjects over the years from Junior Kindergarten to 8th grade, she also taught English as a Second Language in the United States and in Japan.

After teaching many different grade levels and classes from Explore and Create to Math, Mrs. Lewis returned to the second grade classroom, which is where her love of teaching began. She knew that she wanted to be a teacher when she was in second grade, as she had an incredible teacher that she admired. By high school, she had settled on Elementary Education.

Mrs. Lewis continues to find joy in the classroom when she sees the faces of students who have an "aha" moment and can rejoice with them when they learn a new skill. Mrs. Lewis brings creativity, experience, and technological knowledge to life within her classroom walls. "Over the years of my career before SAA,  I realized that many of my students were gifted or twice exceptional.  I wanted them to have the best education possible. I started implementing and compacting the curriculum and offering enrichment classes wherever possible. I wanted to make sure that all children had a chance to learn."

Most summers you can find Mrs. Lewis teaching technology classes, like Programming with Alice, at SAA’s Summer Adventures in Learning program. She also spends a lot of time with her family and dogs, reading, making things, listening to music and playing the piano.
