Congratulations to the Cross Country Team for another great performance at the Grove Jr. High Meet in Elk Grove Village on Monday, September 26th. For the 3rd week in a row, the 8th grade boys placed 1st, and for the 2nd week in a row, the 8th grade girls also placed 1st! The 6th grade boys had a strong team performance as well with a 2nd place finish. We had several top 10 finishers in all grades. Special congrats to Elia for winning the 7th grade girls race, and Lucy for getting 2nd place in the 6th grade girls race... by a hair! The next meet is Thursday, October 13th at Friendship Jr. High in Des Plaines. We hope to see you there to cheer on our SAA runners!
This past weekend, Will and Celina participated in the 94th Kumbaya Scholastic Chess Tournament, sponsored by the Illinois Chess Association, at Niles High School in Skokie. We are proud to announce that Will placed 1st in his individual division and Will and Celina received first place in the team competition. Stop by to see their trophy on display in the front office! SAA is proud!
Congratulations to the SAA community for a successful first-ever home Cross Country meet on Thursday. Coach Tarsinos and Coach Manley would like to thank all the parents and faculty members who generously gave their time to help out and all of those who came to cheer on the team! We are happy to announce that both the 7th and 8th grade boys and girls came in first! The 5th and 6th grade boys came in second place overall. In addition, Elia came in first place in her division! One of the opposing coaches came over after the meet to say that this was the most congenial and kind-spirited meet she had ever attended and thanked our school for such wonderful hospitality! Congratulations to all for a job well done!
Thanks to all who came out to cheer on our Eagles at their first meet held at Friendship Junior High in Des Plaines! What a great start to the season! We are happy to report that our 6th grade boys and our 8th grade girls both came in 2nd for the meet. Impressively, our 8th grade boys came in 1st! In addition, our own Elia came in 1st place for her division! Way to go, SAA!

Kindness...compassion...teamwork: that's what our Cross Country team members displayed at the first meet this week! At the end of the meet, everyone was packing up and parents from other teams were beginning to head to their cars. Our coaches had gathered the team to talk together and end with a team cheer. Some of the kids asked if the team could wait a minute...there was something they wanted to do. They had noticed that a girl from a different team was still running and struggling to finish. No one else seemed to even notice that there was still someone on the course. Our team ran over and ran alongside her...cheering her along all the way to the finish line! What a great group of kids!
Science & Arts Academy was recently recognized for having our best Jump Rope for Heart year yet, by raising more life-saving donations that ever before. Not only did we have our best year yet, but we were one of only six area schools that raised over one thousand dollars MORE than ever before! What a proud moment for SAA! Congrats to all who helped raise money for such a great cause.
