On Tuesday of this week, all of the middle school students and a few fourth graders participated in the annual AMC 8 National Mathematics Contest. This contest is a 25 question contest with challenging middle school level math problems that are designed to promote the development and enhancement of problem-solving skills of middle school students. This is part of our middle school math curriculum every year. This year, SAA had 106 students participate! We will have results in late December or early January - so stay tuned!
Illinois State K-8 Chess Championship Tournament
Two students were part of an accomplished group of 461 students and 48 school teams from throughout the state who competed in the 2015 Illinois State K-8 Chess Championship Tournament last weekend. All team members played five grueling rounds, and some of their matches lasted longer than an hour, making the trip to Peoria well worth it! One competed as one of the youngest in his division, had a great attitude, and won some tough rounds. The other played some clever moves, beat others with very high USCF rankings, and landed himself the 6th place in State! Way to go SAA!
