Wednesday, 20 of our middle school students participated in the 25th annual IMSA Junior High Math Contest at IMSA. The students had a great day and felt good about their experience. Eight students participated as eighth graders, eight students participated as 7th graders and four students participated as seventh and eighth grade alternates. The seventh and eighth grade team members took an individual test, a team test (in teams of four) and then they worked on a set of creative thinking problems in pairs. The alternates took part in the individual and team tests, but not the creative thinking pairs.
After an entire morning of math tests, students enjoyed lunch, a campus tour and then a speed round of math problems. At the end of the day was the award ceremony, with SAA walking away with two of the hardest awards to earn: third place for Creative Thinking Pairs and SAA as a school received third place for Creative Thinking Problem Solving.
We competed agains 23 other schools, many of whom are at other math meets we participate in and do well. SAA students represented our school well, helping clean up in spaces where we took tests, being respectful and supporting one another.
