As Director of Auxiliary Programs, Zach Elkin is a partner in setting the strategy and execution of all operations for SAA's vast array of auxiliary programming, which includes the many extracurricular options SAA students take part in. He is the administrative point person for all extracurricular activities, extended day child care, the school lunch program, and ur Chicago to Des Plaines student transportation service.
Zach is also the Director of SAA's summer enrichment and recreation program, Summer Adventures in Learning, which serves over 350 children from SAA and the surrounding community.
Zach has devoted his career to making a positive impact on children and families from all walks of life. While pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Sociology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, a service-learning trip to New Orleans in the wake of Hurricane Katrina set Zach on a journey to lift up marginalized communities and be an agent for positive change.
After graduating from UW-Madison in 2009, Zach joined AVODAH: The Jewish Service Corps where he engaged in anti-poverty work, community building, and leadership development training in Washington, D.C. Over the next three years, Zach worked in several capacities at local education and human service organizations, including the D.C. Public Schools Central Office, the city’s largest nonprofit after school provider, a public interest justice center, and a leading education-focused think tank.
Zach moved to Chicago in 2012 and continued his educational research for the D.C. based think tank. In the summer of 2015, Zach transitioned back to the nonprofit world for a short stint with the YMCA before joining SAA in the fall. Learn more about Zach's background here.
