Science & Arts Academy teachers share a common passion and vision for providing a challenging, integrated curriculum for gifted children and they regularly share their interests and areas of expertise with the gifted community.
SAA teachers Amy Jacobs and Steve Bayer presented at the National Association for Gifted Children 67th Annual Convention, an event that annually draws gifted education teachers, administrators, graduate students, professionals and parents from around the country.

Drama teacher Steve Bayer’s session, “Gateway to Shakespeare: Introducing Shakespeare to Gifted Learners,” shared effective teaching strategies for introducing, and working with, Shakespeare’s timeless material, highlighting how gaining an appreciation for reading and performing Shakespeare's plays and sonnets is a boon for gifted young learners. Mr. Bayer is active within the gifted education community frequently presenting drama curriculum and how it can support social emotional skills. Mr. Bayer brings his professional acting experience to directing SAA’s annual fall production and assisting with the spring musical.
Presenting “Hands-on and Creative: Integrated Science in Early Childhood,“ Kindergarten teacher Amy Jacobs demonstrated how to use essential questions as a starting point to developing relevant, comprehensive, and creative science units for young students. Creating interdisciplinary lessons which include aspects of science, art, music and language arts is one of her lifelong interests. Mrs. Jacobs has taught in both public and independent schools as a classroom teacher, a self-contained gifted teacher, and as a gifted resource/support teacher. Mrs. Jacobs has earned an Illinois certification as a Gifted Education Teacher and is currently working towards National Board Certification in Gifted Education.
