On Saturday, April 30, the SAA community gathered for our Annual Benefit, A Whimsical Evening at the Garden, at the Chicago Botanic Gardens. The proceeds from the event help support the SAA Scholarship Fund.

During the evening we had the opportunity to pay tribute to the 2022 Blue Horizon Award honoree, presented to individuals who have demonstrated exceptional dedication and unwavering support to SAA.

This year, we are proud to recognize Aviad Sheinfeld, former SAA parent and Chair of the SAA Board of Trustees from 2016 to 2019, for his unwavering support and commitment to the school's mission and core values.

Aviad Sheinfeld  is, together with his wife Kari, the proud parent of three SAA alumni: Yael, Lev, and Rahm. Aviad grew up in the area, graduating from Maine East high school just down the road from SAA. After college at UPenn, he returned to Chicago and began his career as a software engineer at Motorola. Soon enough, he and Kari dated and married. When daughter Yael was born, Aviad opted to become a stay at home dad. The following years were spent raising three kids by day and attending grad school evenings.

Aviad began getting more and more active at SAA. His initial involvement was as a member of the Technology Committee, back when the big question was whether middle schoolers should have access to a tablet or laptop. He joined the Board of Trustees and later served one term as Board Chair. He remained a Trustee until last year, when Rahm graduated from SAA, wrapping up a 17 year stretch for Kari and Aviad as SAA parents.

Most recently, Aviad founded and operated Wiseacre Farm, an indoor hydroponic farm located in Glenview.

Aviad embodies the generous sharing of time, talent, and treasure so vital to a successful home/school partnership, and SAA is a better place thanks to his leadership.
