We are pleased to share additional information of "what's new" items for the 2015-2016 school year. Technology Create Space Our technology create space, formally a kindergarten classroom, has been transformed into a spacious setting where students can program Bee-bots, take apart toys to discover the components inside, and learn about the importance of digital citizenship. Although we are only one week into the new school year, students are already enjoying this new space and learning a lot! Junior Kindergarteners learned about coding as they tried to program their Bee-Bots to move around the room. Kindergarten students had fun going on a field trip to the San Diego Zoo, as they watched the polar bears, elephants, pandas, and orangutans on webcams, explored some of the fun games, and learned about "green" websites. 1st and 2nd grade students discussed the importance of being safe online, and worked on a video presentation using Animoto.com. 3rd and 4th grade students started to learn about how to be a good digital citizen, as they played a choose-your-own-path-video about a robot who wanted to be famous online. After choosing several different scenarios, students were able to see the results and consequences of each action. 5th and 6th grade students also started to discuss digital citizenship. They will be creating a simile about their digital life using a video presentation app on their iPads. 7th and 8th graders are in the process of learning about how to complete a circuit. Music Rooms We have been busily getting the music classes fully prepared for classes. The transformation includes a complete overhaul of the spaces, including new music furniture and storage, as well as extensive soundproofing and scores of new instruments. These upgrades are the result of our 2015 Fund-a-Project, made possible by the support of a generous SAA community. |
