Creating music has been part of Ms. Preuss’s everyday life for as long as she can remember. Joining SAA in 2014, Ms. Preuss brings over 20 years of experience to the SAA music department. Not only is she the middle school music teacher, she also serves as a middle school Advisor, and the music director for SAA’s musical productions. During the summer, she teaches percussion classes like Bucket Band for the Summer Adventures in Learning camp program at SAA.
As a child Ms. Preuss loved to play school and participated in many plays and musical productions. As a theater and choir member in high school she became even more driven to pursue a career path that allowed her to teach, sing, and perform. Ms. Preuss has led the SAA chorus to sing the National Anthem at many Northwestern University games, as well as singing and performing with local seniors at the Frisbie Senior Center in Des Plaines.
Ms. Preuss earned her bachelors in music education and vocal performance from Northwestern University and her masters in curriculum and instruction from National Louis University. She spent over 10 years teaching music to first through fifth graders in a public school setting, teaching music and theater classes in local park districts, and bringing assemblies to a wide variety of schools.
She is a member of the Sigma Alpha Iota Music Fraternity, and the National Association for Music Educators. She has also been a member of the William Ferris Chorale. She shares her talents with Big Deal Productions in the Buffalo Grove Park District and can often be found on stage, or even directing.
Outside of the music room you can find Ms. Preuss enjoying arts and crafts, particularly glass projects, spending time with her family, and travelling.
