Strategic Plan


With the vision of establishing Science & Arts Academy as a Center for Excellence for Gifted Education, a Strategic Plan was created to outline our priorities for the next five years.  Throughout the 2018-2019 school year, the Strategic Planning Steering Committee, along with countless community members, faculty and staff, worked to identify and articulate our strengths and challenges in order to create a shared vision for the future. This work culminated in a new strategic plan to address priorities and needs identified by our community.
The result is SAA's 2019-2023 Strategic Plan, anchored by the following six initiatives:

  • Recognizing that giftedness is all around us, SAA will actively seek, enroll, employ and retain students, faculty, and staff to become an increasingly more inclusive and welcoming community reflecting multiculturalism and diversity throughout the entire experience.
  • SAA will establish itself as a Center for Excellence for Gifted Education through increased support, resources, and partnerships with educators, students, parents and the broader gifted community.
  • In addition to providing differentiated academics and social-emotional learning, SAA will further empower students to embrace challenge, become lifelong learners, and make a positive impact on the world around them.
  • To ensure the current facility best supports and transforms gifted teaching and learning, SAA will enhance and rethink the footprint of the school, while remaining open to all opportunities for expansion.
  • While continuing to build upon our current base of philanthropic support from current and alumni families and friends, SAA will expand its capacity to benefit the gifted community by fostering strategic partnerships with foundations, organizations, and corporations that share our focus on the development and support of gifted students.
  • In recognition of the responsibility to be a positive contributor to the local community, SAA will deepen its connections, service and partnerships with Des Plaines and surrounding neighborhoods.
