Auxiliary Programs
Science & Arts Academy is committed to providing a variety of supplemental programs before, during, and after the school day to further support and enhance the school experience.
Before and After School Care, the lunch program, and transportation services, are designed to make SAA more accessible, while extracurricular activities provide students with enrichment beyond the classroom. A summer program provides fun and unique learning opportunities outside of the regular school year.
Transportation Program
Science & Arts Academy is accessible to gifted learners from the city of Chicago with our convenient Transportation Program.
We are pleased to offer a daily, round trip chaperoned Metra service from Chicago before and after school between the Clybourn and Des Plaines Metra stations. A school shuttle bus transports students between the Des Plaines Metra station and SAA (0.5 mile distance). Parents are responsible for dropping their child off and picking their child up from the designated SAA chaperone at the Clybourn Metra station in Chicago. The SAA chaperone ensures students’ safe arrival to Science & Arts Academy in the morning, as well as their safe arrival back to the Clybourn station in the afternoon. All SAA students are eligible for this service.

Before & After School Care
Our Before & Aftercare Programs are offered every day that SAA is in session to provide more flexibility for those families who need it. Students can do their homework, play quiet games, and participate in other self-directed activities. Depending on the weather and space availability, students have the option to play games in the gym or on the playground.
The Before & Aftercare programs are offered for an additional fee. Fees are waived on the morning or afternoon that a student participates in an extracurricular activity, has a meeting with a faculty/staff member, or is accompanying a volunteering parent. Both Before and Aftercare are drop-in services, therefore there is no advanced reservation required.
Beforecare runs from 7:30-8:20am. Aftercare begins at 3:30pm and ends at 6:00pm. For questions about Before & Aftercare, please contact us.
Lunch Program
SAA offers a daily pre-order lunch program through Marlas Lunch, locally based in Glencoe and Northfield, IL. They offer healthy hot and cold lunch options from their internal kitchen/caterer, as well as fun lunch options from local vendors in the area.

Summer Adventures
Summer Adventures is a unique enrichment and recreation day camp open to SAA students and the local community. We offer 3 two-week sessions each summer for children starting at 3 years old to rising 8th graders. We are proud to employ a team of talented educators and counselors who are fully committed to creating a fun and meaningful summer for every camper. Learn more about summer programs »
