Program Overview

Preschool and Kindergarten Program
Half Day (9:00am - 12:00pm) or Full Day (9:00am - 3:00pm)

The Young Learners Program is a holistic school readiness experience that combines learning and fun for children preparing for the upcoming school year in their preschool or kindergarten classroom. Each two-week session is built around a thematic, multi-disciplinary curriculum (e.g. math, reading, science, art, etc.) that encourages academic, social, emotional, and physical development. Activities are engaging, interactive, and challenging, and they are designed with the differentiated development and educational needs of the child in mind.

In addition to the morning enrichment activities, full day campers eat lunch, have a brief rest period, and spend the afternoon playing cooperative games, sports oriented games, water games, and other creative activities that get them moving around, improving physical fitness, and developing gross motor and coordination skills. Learn more »

Enrichment Program | 9:00am - 12:00pm
The Enrichment Program offers a variety of challenging and fun two-week experiences that span topics in math, science, visual and performing arts, computer programming, specialty athletics, and more. Each class provides opportunities for campers to nurture their passions and explore new interests in a supportive environment that rewards campers for their curiosity and willingness to learn and grow. Most classes are open to all experience levels, and the content and pace of the classes are adapted to meet the needs of the participants. The average class size is 10 campers with one teacher.

Recreation Program* | 12:00 - 3:00pm
The Recreation Program (“Rec” for short) provides opportunities for campers to get exercise, make new friends, build leadership and teamwork skills, and have fun just being kids in the summertime. Fully trained camp counselors (1:10 counselor to camper ratio) lead cooperative games, sports oriented games, water games, team building activities and other engaging, non-competitive camp favorites for small, grade level groups. Most activities take place on our large soccer field, playground and black top area, or in the gymnasium.

Health & Safety
SAA implements specific health and safety measures* as part of our multi-layered approach to reducing the exposure and spread of illness within our community. Summer Adventures in Learning offers an onsite Health Services Center staffed by a full-time nurse.
Sharing responsibility for our community’s health and safety, families and staff can expect:

  • Acknowledgement of Community Responsibility, a family-camp partnership to keep everyone healthy
  • Emphasis on healthy hygiene practices built into the camp schedule
  • The use of large, open-air tents to create outdoor programming space
  • Small class sizes and programming arranged by grade level (PreK, K, 1st-2nd, 3rd-4th, and 5th-8th)
  • Prioritizing staff vaccination

*Summer Adventures in Learning will continue to follow requirements and guidelines set forth by the Illinois State Board of Education, the Illinois Department of Public Health, the Cook County Department of Public Health, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the American Camping Association. This list of health and safety measures is not inclusive of all mitigation strategies and is subject to change as new guidance is issued.
